I was the last on queue and with the girls were quite baffled on their readings, I honestly wanted to back out (*cough* coward).
Too late.
Before I knew it, I was saying my name thrice silently. The card deck was cut thrice. The first card was drawn and the tarot card reader had a huge, refreshing smile on her face. Why not when the first card meant a marriage in my family this 2012. :)
Before I got my first HeadWare, my skull scarf and I were inseparable. It’s been around the world, high and low as a scarf, bag accessory, headband, and head gear.
While it can do a handful of things, there are things it can’t do that my HeadWare can do. Watch the video with Rovilson Fernandez below to find out how versatile HeadWare is.
I have a confession to make: I’m nuts about Grubbies!
Grubbies, not to be confused with anything edible, is the answer to my long term plea. You see my usual day is composed of three (major) activities: PR event/dinner with friends – work – gym. Granted that I can get away with business casual for the first activity, I stick with the same outfit the first half of the day. I just change accessories and shoes et viola! I’m ready for my next agenda.
All my fave colours in one rack! <3
My wardrobe requires low-maintenance fabric + easy breezy cuts for me to have zero fashion constraints as I (try to) keep up with this rather demanding and fast-paced lifestyle. I have an illegal heap of plain jersey tops and dresses because they’re light and generally possess clean lines. I guess that’s what drew me to check out Grubbies — it has pretty much everything my style and function palette demands.
Extending an invite to all you animal and fashion lovers. See you all on the 12th!
We would like to cordially invite you to join us on the 12th of January (Thursday), 9PM as we launch
UNFURGIVABLE – a campaign by STRIP: Ministry of Waxing Manila for P.E.T.A.

If you have a pair of Sebago boat shoes, go ahead and shoot me now for waiting 12 months before nabbing a pair! Gov told me time and time again that his Sebagos are not only very comfy but also very sturdy yet I didn’t buy in an instant (maybe I was waiting for a female voice to say so?). Yesterday I gave in because also, I’ve declared 2012 to be the year of the preppy (ok for me at least). Button downs, polo shirts, and khakis have filled my humble closet to the brink! :)
If you follow me on Twitter, you’d know I had absolutely nothing to wear a week before our corporate Christmas ball. Call it absurd but I had everything but the dress. I grew up in a household where one’s wardrobe’s built around the accessories and the makeup. So yes, as usual, I crammed for the dress the last minute. Here’s what made up my look:
1 peso coin vs. earrings for scale
Are these earring absolutely jaw-dropping gorgeous or what?!? These ain’t mine (I wish!) but my aunt’s who’s a jeweler (email me for quotes!). These dangling earrings can be converted to hoop earrings and the section that dangles (the centre stone’s 1ct each) can be used as pendants. I paired it with a tennis bracelet that’s made up of 20 something ct diamonds. I would’ve worn this 1.1 ct ring but it would be too much already (but it’s hella beautiful!).
Gents — if you’re proposing…let’s talk!
A week before the ball, I was still haunting for the perfect tools to get the “perfect look”. By “perfect look” I mean just my usual look but extra photogenic (you’ll never know where those photos’ll show up!). LOL I hauled the last minute and pooled these new toys to the ultimate test:
NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Golden Beige x Sleek Makeup Blush in Suede
both available from Digital Traincase
Can I say that I’m absolutely hooked on these two pans? This HD powder foundation from NYX’s super makinis. I love applying it with my Charm Flat Top brush then mist into place using Evian. Sleek Makeup Blush in Suede contours my face to perfection. You’ll see later why I love this!
I used my new toys from Benefit Cosmetics to set my brows and give my tan a “boost” from within.
Brows A-Go-Go‘s great for those who want to either keep things simple or don’t have time to do full on eye makeup. Though not pictured, it comes with a pair of tweezers and eye shadow/brow brush. The two eyebrow powders work great in achieving one’s perfect shade of brown while the wax sets everything in place. The light powders do an amazing job brightening the brow bone in a jiffy.
Cha Cha Tint on the other hand’s my kind of cheek tint — not red (I have enough redness already!), not pink, yet makes my golden skin tone blush. It doesn’t have shimmers but it makes me “glow from within”.
Ben Nye LiquiSet is something new to my boudoir. It’s a water-based mixing medium meant to be used with Ben Nye’s MagiCake Aqua Paints, Liquid Paints, Lumiere Colors, Color Cake, and Cake Eyeliner to get that smudge proof finish. Instead of mixing it with my eye shadows as I applied it, I used an extra fluffy synthetic blending brush to lightly dab the solution on my finished eye makeup. The result was amazing. My eye makeup didn’t crease, flake, fade, nor streaked on me. I love this sealant! Get yours from The Style Quarter stat!
Last but not the least, I pulled the trigger — marshmallow pink lips aka. Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color SPF 12 in Bikini Pink (this reminds me of MAC Overtime). It’s a semi-opaque colour I’ve been using a lot lately. I love the hue to bits though I wish it lasted longer on me! :(
Not-so baby tabby cat Junkie Poo celebrated her 3rd birthday last Saturday. When she found out that my new Charm brushes are 100% vegan and animal hair-free, she immediately owned it.
“Thank you human for the birthday gift. Now go get another set for yourself.”
“I must hide this very well or else she’ll swipe it from me when I’m not looking!”
I’ve always been a wahine baby for as long as I can remember. Growing up, much of my photos look like this:

Fast forward to the mid-90s, the beach bum in me learned about Roxy from Seventeen and NYLON. I always saved up for Thanksgiving and Christmas since back then, that’s the only time of the year I can afford sweet finds from the brand. :) When I went to college, I met lots of friends who were into surfing and the beach life. L (below) and I had LOTS of projects together where we fused in tiki, hibiscus, and ocean elements. She’s my favourite Roxy and Quiksilver shopping buddy too!
Hellooooo tan lines
With L, in my favourite XS all-American Roxy studded tank, 2003
After more than 10 years into this love affair and countless bikinis, rashguards, room decor, and linen, Roxy has finally arrived in MNL. 2012 is going to be very big because Roxy Philippines has a lot of surprises for us fan girls. :) For starters, a handful femmes from print and new media were whisked off to Quiksilver Nuvali for an afternoon of fun and frolic the Roxy way.
Minutes before we arrived in Nuvali, we were handed cans of Rockstar Energy Drink (which I’ve been drinking for a while by the way cause I get perked up sans jitters). I’m glad I chugged on mine because boy did we need a lot of energy!
A snap of calm before the storm: delish lunch at Sumosam with Shen, Earth, and Lace.
Chef May and Roi (pictured below) taught us how to make two of their best sellers: Dynamite Roll and Crunchy Tuna Roll. They also served some of my Sumosam faves like the Salmon with Wasabi Cream and Ebi Tempura. Everything was so good (and fine, I ate quite a lot) I kept on praying that we won’t wear bikinis along the way.
After lunch, we found ourselves in my kind of heaven on Earth.
Roxy is the go-to lifestyle brand for the fun and active girl with a pulse on the best trends. Naturally beautiful, the Roxy girl is all about following your heart and where it will lead you. The brand offers a vast array of clothing and accessories that go from fashionably sweet to shredder-worthy when you want it to.
Seeing a wall of TOMS shoes never fail to give me a huge bucket’o confusion. I’ve always wanted the classic red pair (in size 7.5 please) but season after season, they showcase limited edition designs that I can’t seem to resist. Just before I nabbed the holiday exclusive Teal Pop Herringbone (look it up!), I got acquainted with the brand and really, what it’s all about.
a sample pair given away to a TOMS shoes beneficiary
In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. To date, TOMS has given over one million pairs of new shoes to children through giving partners around the world.
Isn’t that wildly impressive? What’s doubly amazing about this movement’s that they replace the shoes every 6 months (since it wears out due to daily use) until the beneficiary’s turned 16. That tells you that each pair you purchase really makes a HUGE difference in a child’s life. One’s foot being protected means less gashes from playing or running around ergo fewer infections therefore more days to complete school. Can you imagine something fashionable can be this socially responsible? :)
[EDIT 11/26] Checkout this local TOMS giving video with its giving partner, WE International:
