Skin Care Q&A with GoodSkin Labs’ Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank

Eyliplex-2 is one of the first GoodSkin Labs products I got to try. We met way back in May 2010 and while I dabble on different brands and formulas every so often, I go back to this staple as soon as I finish testing its contemporaries because it does work wonders on my eye area. It helps a lot in terms of depuffing and moisturizing which really, are my top two concerns.

Earlier the same year, Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank signed with GoodSkin Labs as its Global Dermatologist Brand Endorser. More than a seasoned dermatologist, he has a lot of experience and credentials under his belt.

Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank is Founder and Director of The Fifth Avenue Dermatology Surgery and Laser Center. Cultivating a sophisticated clientele, Dr. Frank has become renowned for his expertise in minimally invasive cosmetic surgery. Dr. Frank is a Board certified Dermatologist and Dermatologic Surgeon, a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology, and a fellow of both the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Academy of Dermatology. He trained in Internal Medicine at New York’s Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and completed his Dermatology residency at NYU Langone Medical Center where he is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor and director of a cosmetic surgical clinic for training dermatologists.

I’m sharing this info with you because I once again got very lucky and was able to ask Dr. Frank several questions that’s always been killing me to know more about. Click on that “read more” button to get dibs on our exclusive Q&A. :)

Phoebe: I’m nearing my 30s and I’m still experiencing acne breakouts every so often. What should I treat first? Acne or line prevention?

Dr. Frank:  The breakouts you are experiencing depend on when in the month they appear. I recommend visiting your dermatologist to determine the nature of these breakouts to best identify what skincare products are right for you that will also give you an anti-aging benefit.

Phoebe: Even with ample sleep, I have the puffiest eye bags in town. What can help me minimize and permanently get rid of them?

Dr. Frank: Eyes are the hardest area to treat because the skin is so delicate. A great product to help minimize the look of dark circles and puffy eyes is Eyliplex-2 Eye Lift + Circle Reducer. The day gel contains two highly effective tightening and lifting agents, while the night cream targets dark circles by helping to restore firmness while sleeping. After eight weeks of use, women in our clinical studies showed a 56% improvement in firmness around the eye! Should you want a more permanent option, I recommend talking to your dermatologist for the right option for you.

What sets Eyliplex-2 apart is the 124 ingredients that are combined to work in synergy targeting eye area complexities both immediately and over time, customized for each time of day to give you the best performance.

The day gel contains two highly effective tightening and lifting agents that are first to market in a GoodSkin Labs eye product: Suberlift™ and Polylift ® combine to offer a light-weight breathable cocktail of ingredients that moisturizes, lifts, tightens and protects against environmental stressors. Suberlift™, a plant derived ingredient from cork oak is an emollient tensor that nearly erases the wrinkles on contact by visibly filling them in on the surface of the skin. The action is complimented by Polylift® a more aggressive tightening film former, derived from sweet almond extract, which stretches out the wrinkle making the eye area appear smoother. The final ingredient, Advanced Rho-Cite™ Complex, is made up of antioxidants and minerals such as rhodochrosite, zinc pca, green tea extract, caffeine and Vitamin E extract, helps fortify the skin’s structure, and defends against daily environmental stressors by helping maintain natural collagen and elastin.

The Eyliplex-2 eye regimen targets concerns with two complementary innovative formulas. The night balm picks up from the day gel and contains two complexes that optimize the skin’s natural recovery process by recharging the skin. Haloxyl PFE™ is a new powerful extract derived from the passionflower to reduce the appearance of dark circles by helping to restore firmness while sleeping. Mala-plump™Complex, made up of minerals such as malachite, caffeine and a Vitamin C derivative, supports skin’s natural recovery process and combats free radicals and environmental aggressors while also boosting natural collagen production. Super Plumping Spheres act like plastic wrap, helping to keep moisture from escaping the eye area.

Phoebe: I feel strongly about non-invasive procedures but I have deep lines that can definitely be corrected by Botox. What are my alternatives and how long will it take for me to see the results?

Dr. Frank: GoodSkin Labs Tri-Aktiline Instant Deep Wrinkle Filler spackles right over those unwanted wrinkles. Tri-Aktiline is a potent deep-wrinkle formulation that instantly fills fine lines and wrinkles while helping to firm the skin over time. This concentrate helps eliminate the appearance of wrinkles on contact, evening out and smoothing away the look of the deepest, most visible lines.

While I learned a lot from this short Q&A, I’m curious:

If you could ask Dr. Frank one question, what would it be?

The most interesting inquiry will be awarded one (1) Eyliplex-2! This contest is open to all Metro Manila residents from today, 13 February ’til 19 February 2012. The winner will be notified and can claim his/her prize at the Estee Lauder office in Buendia, Makati City.

Good luck and I’m looking forward to have my socks knocked off by your questions! :)

2/20/2012 UDPATE: Contest CLOSED!

Congratulations Madelyn!

Recently I got a white bump near my tear duct. I got so freaked out since it hurts whenever I touch it. However, I was not able to go to any doctor so I just left it as it was. One day, I accidentally scratched the white bump and then I realized it was some sort of a pimple. Is it possible to have pimples near the tear ducts and what causes them? I have not been wearing any make-up (even under eye concealer) for the past three months prior to this white bump.

Do watch your email within the week for instructions on how to claim your prize. :)

  1. Is it true that putting cold, raw meat on one’s face would ease up the swelling on a skin (Just like what Hagrid did in Harry Potter)?

Btw, if I were to ask one question, it is: Why would a guy like you produce something like this? Is it because you care about how woman look, or does it go deeper, such as uplifting a woman’s confidence? I really want to know why men would bother about a woman’s problems haha :))

  3. I’m turning 26 this year and I noticed that for the past 2 years, freckles (age spots) have appeared on my cheeks. I’ve always worn sunblock before I go out, so what causes this and what can be a possible solution? :)

  4. My eyelids tend to get itchy and flaky at times. Worse, it sometimes it gets swollen. I don’t put anything in that area (no creams etc.) so I don’t know what the cause is and I am afraid of applying any product for fear of irritating it further. What do I do whenever my eyelids gets this way?

  5. When I was in college, a classmate of mine told us that freezing a spoon for a couple of minutes and then placing them on the eyes, cold as it is, will reduce the dark under-eye circles. is this true? or any cold thing that you put over your eyes will work?

I have really oily skin. I took some Vitamin E capsules for three days and suddenly I had a massive breakout on my face especially on the neck/under the face region. The little bumps (could be whiteheads) on my face suddenly became large pimples. I immediately stopped taking them afterwards. Is that effect normal? I thought Vitamin E is supposed to make the skin healthy and beautiful. Why does it have an opposite effect on me? Can you please suggest an effective and faster way to remove or get rid of pimples? I hope you can help me as it is getting me really concious and have a hard time covering it up with powder/make-up.

Thank you very much Dr. Frank and Phoebe! More power to the both of you!

I wear eye glasses and I worry about the thought that it can cause an extra wrinkles in my face because of the friction, and I so happen to have a dark under eye, I would receive unsolicited advises that its because of my eyeglasses. Is that true?

    P.S :)
some eye cream claims that they are safe for contact lens users and it confuses me. does it mean that there are eye creams that are not safe to use if you are a contact lens user?

  12. What would you better suggest: use Tri-Aktiline for deep wrinkles along the eye area for instant lift (if product can be placed along this area) or use Eyliplex-2 for a long term correction and prevention of this problem?

  13. What is the most important eye cream ingredient? and give us top 3 must have ingredients to look for in an eye cream.
