MAC Toledo

Over high heels and FriYAY canapes, we said hello to the latest MAC collaboration to grace our shores, MAC Toledo. It wasn’t until early last year that I was acquainted with the romantic Cuban-American husband (artist) and wife (fashion designer) powerhouse. At 13, Ruben Toledo felt love at first sight towards Isabel. Isabel on the other hand, fell in love with Ruben’s work before falling in love with him.

Awwww.

Poetic colour ushers in a new vitality following winter’s deep chill, as uninhibited shades dance across the face in a free-spirited collection inspired by whimsical flights of fancy. Liberate yourself from darkened tones and explore the free-form movement of frosted lavender, pearlized champagne and pale mint green. Eyes and cheeks explore a new lightness of being in sheer pastels, a perfect complement to rosy lips. Nails leave you free to be, in hushed beige and lavender…expressive colour for the modern spirit.

As bright as their personalities and work outside of the makeup industry, the MAC Toledo collection is just as bold and vibrant as you would imagine it to be. The collection’s packaging is dominantly white with black scribbles and whispers of red letters. The actual products? They’re pops of colour summer’s summoned us to stock on.

#MACInstantArtistry

Back by popular demand, MAC Philippines is hosting another MAC Instant Artistry run this November. MAC Instant Artistry is dubbed to be the “the quickest and easiest way to learn makeup skills straight from the pros through interactive videos, one-on-one sessions with our Artists and live demos.”. This run showcases new videos and focus topics that include: Blush with Depth and Dimension, Day to Night Eyes, Refreshing Your Makeup and Sculpted Lips.

You have two more days to make a dash to SM Megamall for a personalized MAC Instant Artistry 411. :) I dropped by last Saturday and I went home with tried and tested techniques to hide my active pimples and dark spots (ughhhh!).

Me sans makeup.
Oh and no, not posting a close up of my FOTD with pimples and all. :P

Collab Love: MAC & Pedro Lourenco

Daring hues are juxtaposed against soft nudes, all encased in limited-edition packaging. The Nude Quad gives eyes a subtle metallic finish, while cheeks are flushed in Powder Blush (Duo). Cream Colour Base adds an icy lustre to eyes and cheeks as two Nail Lacquers provide an haute flash of colour for a chic complement to any look. Lips make a definitive style statement and a subtle swipe of Lipglass is the perfect finish, guaranteed to intrigue.

I only have a sliver of the collection an it’s received a lot of mixed reviews online (some even saying it’s pure waste of money). I must have gotten really lucky because it not only suits my skin tone but is also very workable and not even slightly chalky.

MAC Huggable Lipcolour Look by Noel Nocillado

Clueless what look to sport on the upcoming red letter day? MAC Philippines’ Noel Nocillado (kenjie2 on Instagram) has a super easy & chic look perfect not just for V-day but right about the entire year.

The center of attention in this taupe & roses look are the lips perfected using the new MAC Huggable Lipcolour (Php 1150/$20). This addition to our lippie army’s super creamy, glossy and pleasantly long lasting. While it promises six hours of wear, I get to sport it in its perfect shape for 2 hours tops. It leaves a gorg stain that never outlines my lips making it a winner for daily use. It’s also gel based which makes it super light yet nicely pigmented.

Here’s the full range to enable your lemming! :)

In the look MAC created for me, they thought that the MAC Huggable Lipcolour in Red Necessity (a deep wine and gorgeously warm hue) perfectly fits my personality. I actually agree! What do you think? :)

An Ode to *THE* MAC 217 Blending Brush

When MAC rocked SM Aura last year, the guests were asked to profess their love affair for the brand by doodling on a wall. I don’t have a photo of myself doing it but here are some of the guests going at it.

The end result? So much MAC love, so much colour!

While I have units in visual arts, sadly, I couldn’t for the life of me draw on canvass (let’s just stick to skin please) to claim that I drew the blue eyes or the bright fuchsia lips. My quip was simple and I got Liz & Rizel (of MAC) to agree:

What’s the MAC 217 (brush) anyway?

For shading or blending of colour or creamy products. This brush has fine, densely packed fibers that are arranged in an oval shape. M·A·C professional brushes are hand-sculpted and assembled using the finest quality materials. They feature wood handles and nickel-plated brass ferrules.

If you’re new to the brand and don’t know where to start, I highly suggest trying out the MAC 217 (Php 1300). Like the famous 187 Duo Fibre Face brush, the MAC 217 brush is one of the most popular brushes sold by the brand. It has a strong following on both MUA circles and Youtube vloggers. Its ultra soft, very dense yet tad fluffy hair which makes blending a breeze even for newbies whether you’re working with powder or cream. If you’re trying to pat and deposit heavy colour, I suggest skipping this and use the MAC 239 instead.
