Taking a Break from All Them Reds

Just before we closed January, I was cleaning out my boudoir’s “top shelf” when I realized — all of my favourite lipsticks are from the berry family.

On Instagram last 29 January:
I just found a neat excuse to go #lipstick shopping.

On Instagram last 02 February:
Partyline. Viva Glam III. Dubonnet.
Rotating these MAC reds a lot lately. What other shades should I try? I’m NC40.

For someone wearing a lot less makeup all over (derma’s orders), this presents pros and cons. Top pro would be — I can sleep all day, wake up with only 10 minutes to prep for work, pick any colour and I’m good to go because I’m 100% definite they complement my skin tone. Biggest con — apparently, I don’t have anything that’s not red (!!!).

I’ve been long postponing my hunt for the perfect pink and perfect neutral when the need presented itself just last Tuesday. I was at the Powerplant Mall wearing my usual cat eyes and MAC Perpetual Flame + MAC Partyline when I realized that my face is too red from the peeling I’m going through. In my attempt to balance the look out, I removed the red lippies and swiped on some MAC Cremesheen Gloss in Imperial Light. It was too light so I made a 911 run to THE lipstick HQ. Bet you already know where I went!

I instantly zeroed in on 2 racks: Cremesheen and Pro Longwear Lipcreme. I love the comfort and finish of Cremesheen but the longevity of Pro Longwear Lipcreme’s just beyond me. Swatching around 7-9 neutrals, I ended up with Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Soft Sell (Php 1100). It’s a classic neutral pink with a hint of pearl that would (IMO) look pretty good for someone who’s anywhere NC35-NC42 (aka. the shades I play with myself LOL).

The odds of me being gifted another non-berry lipstick from Estee Lauder the same night was just the icing on the cake. I just knew it — I have to take a break from all them reds. A little late for the party but aren’t these non-reds the prettiest? 🙂

If you’re on the medium to medium tan complexion rainbow and you’ve got a penchant for neutral or nude lipsticks, share with me in the comment section below what are your favourite lipsticks. I’d love to try more of these non-berry hues soon!

  1. That MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Soft Sell looks really nice. I don’t have too many nudes either but I have seen a nude lippie from Sophie’s post that really caught my eye, it’s the MAC Cosmetics Sheen Supreme in Tea Ceremony. I think it’s a very nice shade…
