TOMS: One For One
Posted on Nov 25, 2011 in Fashion
Seeing a wall of TOMS shoes never fail to give me a huge bucket’o confusion. I’ve always wanted the classic red pair (in size 7.5 please) but season after season, they showcase limited edition designs that I can’t seem to resist. Just before I nabbed the holiday exclusive Teal Pop Herringbone (look it up!), I got acquainted with the brand and really, what it’s all about.

a sample pair given away to a TOMS shoes beneficiary
In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. To date, TOMS has given over one million pairs of new shoes to children through giving partners around the world.
Isn’t that wildly impressive? What’s doubly amazing about this movement’s that they replace the shoes every 6 months (since it wears out due to daily use) until the beneficiary’s turned 16. That tells you that each pair you purchase really makes a HUGE difference in a child’s life. One’s foot being protected means less gashes from playing or running around ergo fewer infections therefore more days to complete school. Can you imagine something fashionable can be this socially responsible? :)
[EDIT 11/26] Checkout this local TOMS giving video with its giving partner, WE International:
This year, TOMS encourages us to give the joy of well, TOMS!

In true TOMS fashion, our Holiday 2011 Collection focuses whole-‐heartedly on the significance of the human connection that results from the act of giving. Giving naturally creates an indescribable feeling that connects the giver with the receiver. This feeling is magnified when combined with the joy of the holiday season. Giving takes on a special meaning with TOMS, sending our hearts, minds and memories toward family and friends, old colleagues and new. Through giving, we connect to those around the world and realize that they are connected to us, every day of the year.
The collection is complimented by pops of winterized colors and materials allowing people in all climates to continue wearing TOMS throughout the winter months. These warmer options include plaid, wool and suede materials, bold colors and prints like teal and black Aztec canvas as well as fleece-‐lined styles. With all of the special occasions during these winter months fancier styles are found for women in the collection with the Sequins Cordones, Classics and Wedges, allowing your TOMS to be present at every occasion during the holidays.
TOMS Holiday 2011 Collection embodies the true spirit of this special time of year. With its colorful and imaginative elements, the collection is sure to include the perfect gift, warming the souls of its givers and receivers, while connecting family and friends in the true magic of the holiday season.
Join us at the TOMS GIVE FAIR on December 4 at Trinoma Mall for a chance to style your signature pair of shoes. :)

Who knows — you might also get to take a sneak peak into the Spring/Summer 2012 collection in that event. Teaser after the jump! :)

The TOMS eyewear line promises the gift of sight to its program beneficiaries. It’s already launched in the US and it will be available locally by February 2012 (same time as the S/S 2012 shoe launch).

My favourite style has to be (hands down) this Classic 301:
