I have a slightly TMI confession. Disclaimer: some of you might be jealous, maybe even hate me for this. *grins*
You see I have very fine body hair. By very fine I mean I only have to wax my legs twice a year (thrice if I wear jeans at least 4x a week, which hasn’t really been the case since graduating from college) and do the needful grooming on my pits (hot wax) every 7-10 weeks. Exag, I know! Apart from very fine regrowth, the hair also grows back too damn slow. It sure saves me a lot of time and money but like every woman, I still find fault in it. Never contented, I want to banish my body hair away for life. The problem is, I can’t commit to a diode (aka. pain-free) laser treatment program because I find it so expensive for something *I think* I won’t get to enjoy immediate results.
I first chanced on Wink through Divasoria’s blog and I thought it’s very modern and impecably neat. When Liz invited me to try out the pain-free laser hair removal treatment, I immediately gave it a go. In all honesty, I only said yes because when I saw the machine they use, it’s the Alma Lasers Soprano Accord — the same machine used on my upper lips in a more expensive clinic.
Before I take you through my experience, let me take you to a quick tour around WINK Laser & Wax Studio.
This is one of the wax rooms. They’re impressive to my liking and in gender sensitive colours: blue, orange and yellow. The sole laser room looks like this but tad bigger because of the machine. Each room houses 1 client at a time and has its own sink, sanitizing machine and tubs of hot wax. My favourite accent to the already chic room? These ghost chairs. I want four for my flat!
Double yay: sanitizing disposable plastic spatulas!
Wax, wax, and more wax.
Now on to my personal experience. My attendant, Giane, was not just efficient but also attentive to detail. As someone who works in client care, I can be the worst client esp. when I’m naked of sorts. LOL I had 2 laser treatments on different areas the first time I paid the studio a visit (one’s on the house while another’s courtesy of Sample Room). The total time spent under the lights differ from one client to another, depending on the quality of hair and of course, the area that needs to be laser-zapped. Typically, they recommend going back every 6-8 weeks and while I don’t see the need just yet, I went back 10 weeks after the initial treatment. Given the quality of my body hair, I think I can even stretch it to 12-14 weeks since the hair just breaks off and falls (which is just great!).
Apart from Giane being diligent in reminding me of my appointment without being such a hardsell, I love how I can book ever so smartly online. I just have to select what treatments I want to get, select a date and time and viola — I can see the open sessions! No need to play guessing game over the phone.
Yep, I had round 2 last Sunday!
The only drawback I see is that they can’t do so many laser treatments in one go (at this point, at least). I personally think that because of their very competitive price points, the laser treatments will be the cash cow from us women who want to forever say goodbye to unwanted body hair the pain-free way.
